Four trips, compared by ease

Two single days and two trips with a hotel night, all private and all starting from Ho Chi Minh City. The table below compares them on the things that decide how tired you will be, not on the number of sights.

Road distances come from routing on open map data and drive times are ranges, because leaving Ho Chi Minh City can add half an hour on a bad morning. Boat boardings and rest times are our plan for each trip; your quote repeats them for your dates.

Which one fits your party

If this is your only delta day

Take the Ben Tre orchards and coconut day. It reaches water-coconut canals, a coconut-candy workshop and a working orchard, the whole way is now by road, and the one boat leg can be dropped on the day without losing the point of the trip. Ben Tre has the largest coconut area in Vietnam, and the day is built around that.

If someone in the party loves food

Choose the market and garden kitchen day. You walk a town market in My Tho with a cook, buy for lunch, then cook it together in a garden kitchen on Thoi Son islet. Children roll and wrap; adults deal with the hot pan. It is the shortest drive of the four.

If you are travelling with older parents

The Cai Be and An Binh two-day trip splits the driving over two days and puts a hotel night in Vinh Long between them. The first day is about wooden garden houses at Dong Hoa Hiep, built for a hot climate and pleasant to sit in; the second crosses to An Binh islet for orchards. There is a proper rest on both days.

If you want to see Can Tho

Can Tho, the city on the Hau River, is the farthest of the four trips, about 171 km by road. The Can Tho trip takes the drive in one block each way and spends the rest of the time slowly: an afternoon at the Binh Thuy ancient house, an evening on the riverfront and a morning on the water. The floating market is offered early or late, and we say plainly what each version shows.

What every trip includes

  • A private car with air-conditioning and a driver, sized for your party and your luggage
  • An English-speaking guide for the whole trip
  • Child seats we have been able to secure, requested in advance for every child who needs one
  • Boats as listed, with life jackets, and the entrance fees on the route
  • Lunch each day, and breakfast at the hotel on two-day trips
  • Bottled water in the car

The pricing page lists what is left out and why, and the how to book page explains holds, confirmation and changes.

Private only, and why

We do not sell seats on shared coaches. A join-in tour follows the timetable of a full coach; a private trip can stop because a child has fallen asleep, wait while a grandparent takes the jetty steps slowly, or skip the boat altogether if the river looks rough. That flexibility is the product.

Shared tours are cheaper per person, often by a wide margin, and for a fit couple on a budget they are the sensible choice. If that is you, a shared day from Ho Chi Minh City will show you more stops for less money. If the pace matters more than the price, read on.

Three days in the delta

Two of the trips join neatly. Day one follows the Cai Be route to a hotel in Vinh Long; day two crosses to An Binh islet in the morning and drives on to Can Tho in the afternoon, a short hop compared with the drive from Ho Chi Minh City; day three follows the second day of the Can Tho trip and returns to the city. The total time in a vehicle over three days is similar to the two-day Can Tho trip alone, because the long drive is split into three shorter ones.

We plan this version on request. Tell us in the form that you would like three days, and whether anyone in the party needs a ground-floor room or a lift.

Common questions

Questions travellers ask most

Can we combine two of the trips?

Yes. Cai Be with An Binh, then Can Tho, makes a three-day trip with two hotel nights and no single drive longer than the one out of Ho Chi Minh City. We quote it as one trip.

Can a trip start in Can Tho instead of Ho Chi Minh City?

Yes. If you are already in Can Tho, the Can Tho trip shortens to its own city programme and the long drives disappear. We price it from your hotel.

Do you run shared group departures?

No. Every trip is private for one party. That is what lets us keep the pace gentle and change the plan on the day.

How many people can travel together?

Most of our trips are for two to six people. We plan for up to about ten in one party with a larger vehicle; beyond that the pace gets hard to keep and we will say so.
